The following is a listing of the performing ensembles included in the Coronado High School Instrumental Music Program:

Wind Symphony (Advanced Band) -- Members of the Wind Symphony represent the most advanced performers in the Coronado High School Instrumental Music Program. The Wind Symphony performs literature of the highest quality and advanced technique, and represents Coronado High School in a variety of performances throughout the school year. Attendance at a limited number of rehearsals and performances outside of the school day is expected of all members.

Symphonic Band (Advanced Band) -- Members of the Symphonic Band represent the most advanced performers in the Coronado High School Instrumental Music Program. The Symphonic Band performs literature of the highest quality and advanced technique, and represents Coronado High School in a variety of performances throughout the school year. Attendance at a limited number of rehearsals and performances outside of the school day is expected of all members.

Concert Band (Intermediate Band) -- The Concert Band presents a balance program of technical development and musical performance, and represents Coronado High School in a variety of performances throughout the school year. It is expected that all members will work towards improvement and possible advancement into the Symphonic Band. Attendance at a limited number of rehearsals and performances outside of the school day is expected of all members.

Marching Band -- Membership into the Marching Band is determined by combining members of the Symphonic Band and Concert Band; therefore, a separate Marching Band audition is not required. The Color Guard is determined by audition in the late spring of the previous school year. The Marching Band is the most publicly visible performing ensemble. Because of this notoriety, members must always display an attitude of discipline, enthusiasm, and pride. All Marching Band members are expected to attend band camp as well as all rehearsals and performances outside the school day.

Jazz Bands I & II -- Membership of the Jazz Ensembles is determined through a separate audition process. The Jazz Band I will take place during the day for the entire school year. Rehearsal for Jazz Band II will officially begin following marching season and continue through the end of the school year, taking place during early bird. Attendance at a limited number of appearances outside of the school day is expected of all members.

Pep Band -- Pep Band performs for most home basketball games as dictated by the year's ghome schedule, all playoff games for both the girls and boys teams as dictated by the season's record, and the opportunity to travel to Reno for the state basketball playoffs (occurring in late February). This group will receive a semester credit for participation, and is open to any band student. A sign-up sheet will be made available during late September, along with a listing of game dates. In order to receive credit, a student can miss no more than two games during the regular season, and must be available for all local playoff games. If the basketball team(s) advances to state playoffs, all students who have successfully earned semester credit are eligible to travel to Reno for those subsequent games.

Advanced Study/Performing Arts -- Smaller performing ensembles such as clarinet choir, flute choir, bras choir, percussion ensemble, trios, quartets, quintets, and orchestra winds are formed based on student interest. In addition to performance at CCSD Solo and Ensemble Festival, chamber ensembles represent Coronado High School Instrumental Music Program through performances within the school and local community. This class wil take place during early bird, at the conclusion of marching season. As with any performing ensemble, members are expected to attend and contribute positively to all rehearsals and performances.

Percussion Ensemble/Drumline -- Percussion Ensemble/Drumline is designed for students who desire to learn and play percussion instruments. This course will include guidance and direction in solving psychomotor problems related to percussion instruments and the techniques for providing tone, rhythmic patterms, and dynamic levels. Students will develop techniques of performance, notation reading, and musicality using a wide variety of percussion instruments and musical styles. Students will also develop techniques for playing all percussion instruments in a variety of musical settings including marching band, concert band, jazz band, small ensemble, and indoor drumline. The importance of sustained effort and practice is stressed for technical proficiency. This course will fufill a Fine Arts requirement and may be repeated for credit.

Color Guard/Rhythmic Precision -- Color Guard (Rhythmic Precision) -- The purpose of the Color Guard is to add color, excitement, and visual enhancement to the marching band show. The Color Guard is open to all Coronado High School Students. The Color Guard will receive training from a qualified guard instructor. As an integral part of the Cougar Pride Marching Band during the fall months, members of the Color Guard will be enrolled in a separate class, Rhythmic Precision, which takes place during the school day, in addition to Marching Band, which takes place during early bird.
After the marching season is complete, the color guard changes its competitive venue from enhancing the marching band show to performing in its own competitive Cougar Winter Guard. This group will participate in local performances in the winter and spring, and will ultimately travel to competitions in California.
Students are required to attend band camp. Students who successfully complete this class will receive a PE II Waiver. This course may be repeated.
