It is expected that all members will work towards improvements and possible advancement into the Wind Symphony. Marching Band -- Marching Band is a requirement for all students in grades 10-12 enrolled in another band class or Color Guard. Incoming 9th graders will audition for placement within the band program, and will do so in the spring prior to their freshmen year. Freshmen students who audition for and are accepted into the marching band will also enroll in intermediate band (Concert Band) and will earn a PE II waiver. Those students will have the opportunity to audition for and move into an upper level ensemble (Symphonic Band or Wind Symphony). Freshmen students who are not accepted into marching band will enroll in intermediate band (Concert Band) and not receive a PE II waiver. This group performs at out-of-school performances, halftime shows, competitions, and parades. This class meets during the earliest period of the school day during the first quarter, as well as the first two to three weeks of the second quarter. All marching band students are required to participate in and out-of-school performances and rehearsals. The Marching Band is the most publicly visible performing ensemble. Because of this notoriety, members must always display an attitude of discipline, enthusiasm, and pride. All Marching Band members are expected to attend band camp as well as all rehearsals and performances outside the school day.

Jazz Bands I & II -- Membership of the Jazz Ensembles is determined through a separate audition process. The Jazz Bands explore a variety of jazz literature and techniques, and perform within the school and local community. The ensembles also participate in various jazz festivals during the school year. Rehearsals for Jazz Band II will take place during the day for the entire school year. Rehearsal for Jazz Band I will officially begin following marching season and continue through the end of the school year, taking place during early bird. Attendance at a limited number of appearances outside of the school day is expected of all members.

Pep Band -- Pep Band performs for most home basketball games as dictated by the years home schedule, all playoff games for both the girls and boys teams as dictated by the seasons record, and the opportunity to travel to Reno for the state basketball playoffs (occurring in late February). This group will receive a semester credit for participation, and is open to any band student. Auditions will occur in late October. A listing of game dates will be provided prior to the audition. In order to receive this semester credit, a student can miss no more than two games during the regular season, and must be available for all local playoff games. (Specific dates are not available until the completion of the season, but a blocked out two-week time will be announced, so students will be available). If the basketball team(s) advances to state playoffs, all students who have successfully earned semester credit are eligible to travel to Reno for those subsequent games. Specific information will follow should that opportunity arise. Students will wear their pep band shirt to all pep band performances.

Advanced Study/Performing Arts -- Smaller performing ensembles such as clarinet choir, flute choir, brass choir, percussion ensemble, trios, quartets, quintets, and orchestra winds are formed based on student interest. In addition to performances at Clark County School District Solo and Ensemble Festival, chamber ensembles represent the Coronado High School Band Program through performances within the school and local community. This class will take place during early bird, at the conclusion of marching season. As with any performing ensemble, members are expected to attend and contribute positively to all rehearsals and performances.

Color Guard/Rhythmic Precision -- The purpose of the Color Guard is to add color, excitement, and visual enhancement to the marching band show. The Color Guard is open to all Coronado High School Students. The Color Guard will receive training from a qualified guard instructor. As an integral part of the Cougar Pride Marching Band during the fall months, members of the Color Guard will be enrolled in a separate class, Rhythmic Precision, which takes place during the school day, in addition to Marching Band.
After the marching season is complete, the Color Guard changes its competitive venue from enhancing the marching band show to performing in its own competitive Cougar Winter Guard. This group will participate in local performances in the winter and spring, and will ultimately travel to competitions in California.
Students are required to attend band camp. Students who successfully complete this class will receive a PE II Waiver. This course may be repeated.
